Dwarahat lies at a distance of 36 km from Ranikhet on the way to Karnaprayag. The temples, whose presence was forgotten for a long while, were built by the Katyuri kings. At one time, they were renowned for their beautiful architecture and the temple design hews closely to the motifs in the Gurjari school of art.As the name suggests, Dwarahat means way of Heaven where Dwara means way and Hat means Heaven. A visit to Dwarahat gives you a feeling of closeness with God.Though it is not a very popular education center of the region, it houses a government engineering college called Kumaon Engineering College. There are also two government colleges in Dwarahat one exclusively for girls and the other a co-education college.
